National Forgiveness Day

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christianity , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Yesterday, October 30th, was National Forgiveness Day. Forgiveness is the most powerful act that releases the burdens that we are prone to carry.

It is the pardoning or the excusing of a wrong (Matthew 6:12; 14:15). It is the cancelling of a debt.  It is giving up a claim for revenge or resentment. To forgive is to trust others as if the wrong is forgotten. It includes a new start in attitudes and actions (John 8:11).

How easy or difficult is it for you to forgive? To be forgiven? Forgiving others opens us to receive forgiveness from God. Jesus forgave sins (Mark 2:5) and encourages us to forgive each other the same way (Colossians 3:13 and Matthew 18:22-35).

Pastor Appreciation

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christianity , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Beloved, this month is Pastor Appreciation Month – October.

According to the Book of Revelation, a pastor is an “angel” in the church, that is, the one who specifically hears from the Lord relative to vision and strategic direction for the local church.  While the Lord Jesus is the Head of the church, the pastor is, in essence, the head of the local church. He/she oversees the daily administration and care for a local group of congregrants, based upon the Word of God. The term “co-pastor” is non-Scriptural as God can only speak to one head, not two or more.

Pastors are blessed with a spiritual “perfecting” gift.  In Ephesians 4:11-12, we find this truth:

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (KJV)

Take the time this month to celebrate your pastor. Let him/her know how much you appreciate them and their work in the vineyard. Be mindful that pastors are sent; It’s more than a profession, it’s a calling.  They’ll be glad that you did!
