Commitment – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

This week, a commitment that I made really paid off through a key relationship with an international television program – AIM Christian Television. I discovered this opportunity on LinkedIn. I committed many months ago to provide content to assist with their launch and, in turn, they reviewed and featured my material. One of my many messages to people within my sphere of influence surrounds the principle of committing to activities and initiatives that help others to achieve their goals and dreams.

Please take a look at my message on this topic. I challenge you to make the commitment!

Family! – Wednesday Word of Wisdom

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Following our Thanksgiving Day meal together and enjoying the fellowship and love, spending quality time with family is a cherished gift. What a joy to be with family during the holiday season! It is a time to reminisce and reflect upon the good times from the past and to look forward to much fun in the future.

The family is a unit of close and intimate love, concern and advocacy for one another. During this holiday season, remember to reach out to family members, near and far, and remind them of your love and genuine care for each of them. This is meaningful, uplifting and encouraging for all to enjoy and remember, especially during this time of the year.

One of my cherished memories is my family as we gathered together as “one” at my recent retirement ceremony after 34 years of total service with the federal government. I am thankful and grateful!!

Thanks Dad – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

During my recent retirement from the federal government after 34 years of total service, I could not help but to use my dad’s most consistent phrase as I addressed the audience of 150 with my closing remarks during my official ceremony. The phrase is “Be prepared.”

Preparedness is an essential ingredient to our individual and collective success. Entering through open doors while we are ready (having been prepared) is the determining factor that will, or will not, propel us toward fulfillment, joy, fun and high achievement. Dad taught me this principle from childhood all the way through adulthood. He was consistent and persistent in his teaching. As I applied the principles, I quickly learned that it worked!

As I prepared my closing remarks at my retirement ceremony, I felt led to share this message with my colleagues, bosses, peers, mentors and mentees. I want them to enjoy success and longevity…do not quit. I want the same for YOU.

I implore you to study, focus, meditate, pray and work to improve your craft as a part of your daily preparation. When you do, you will not fail.

Thank you dad!! Peace and blessings…

Blessings for Our Leaders – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Our leaders are BLESSED!! Some know this truth…others have no clue. Leadership is a spiritual gift from God (Romans 12:8), meaning that God has equipped His leaders for the work that is being accomplished. As a blessed leader, we have a higher responsibility to lead in an excellent manner. That is, lead with enthusiasm, zeal, motivation and no personal motives.

Lead your people as if your life depended on it…in essence it does! Be a positive example at all times and reveal God’s love every step along the way. This will instill to others the blessings that we enjoy, each and everyday!

Lead by Example – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

You’ve heard the phrase – “Lead, follow or get out of the way.” Yes, while true, let’s rethink this.

Would you follow yourself? If so, keep up with the integrity, ethics, character and mannerisms that launched you toward leadership. If not, what would you change?

Here is one major suggestion: Read a leadership book once per month. It will change your thinking and behaviors so that others will be inclined to follow you. One change can create significant results.

Try it…lead by example.

Leading at Your Best – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Being and becoming a great leader requires your focus, dedication, persistence, patience and grit. I know – as a pastor as well as mid-level and senior-level in the federal government ranks for over 20 of my 34 year career, I’ve seen all types of personalities and abilities under my care as a supervisor, manager and leader.

I order to successfully maneuver through the challenges of leading others, here is what it takes:

Focus – requires you to laser in on the people that you are leading. Get to know them and their families

Dedication – be completely dedicated to their cause and what makes them tick. They will appreciate it when they feel valued

Persistence – stick with it. Do not give up on your people even when they choose to give up on themselves. Find a way to have them to believe in themselves

Patience – it takes a while to break through the hard shells of some of your people. That’s okay! Keep pressin’…

Grit – be “thick-skinned” as you work hard to lead you people. It takes a tough persona as you work through many obstacles, but you will persevere as good leaders always do.

Leading at you best requires all of the above. Get to it!!

Reach A Million – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Today is my 1st day of post-retirement following 34 years of total federal service combined with my private industry experience as well. Following a weekend of wonderful celebrations, I now embark on chapter two in this beautiful life – leadership development training for the current and next generation of leaders. To this end, I eagerly anticipate signing a multiple book contract with a major publisher in the coming days (this month) as an extension to all of the training, coaching and mentoring that will take place around the globe.

On this post-retirement adventure, I ask you to please join me in prayer as I solicit 10,000 family and friends to reach 100 each so that, ultimately, we reach 1 million readers. It is my hope that 1 million-plus people around the world have a thirst and hunger to be better leaders and manager with the intent to make this world a better place. Would you join me in this simple prayer?:

“Heavenly Father, in the spirit of educating and equipping a new generation of excellent leaders around the globe, I pray that 100 people that You designate will read and apply the contents in the “Leadership – With A Servant’s Heart” book series, authored by Kevin Wayne Johnson. I pray that, as a direct result, the difference will be heartfelt by these readers as well as the recipients of the practical and life-changing leadership principles and strategies that are read. Thank you for answered prayers. In Jesus Name – Amen.”

Repeat this prayer just once per week and collectively we will reach the next generation of leaders – together!!

Wednesday Word – Keep pressing…

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

On this day, I cannot help but to think about perseverance and patience as it relates to our individual goals, aspirations and dreams. Too frequently, we give up when things get tough. While I can relate, and understand, this brief setback, it should nor EVER keep us from pressing forward.

As I writer/author, I have to deal with rejections from publishers, writers conferences, conventions and sometimes, my submitted articles for magazines. Guess what? Rejections do not deter the original plan. It’s just a minor bump in the road as I continue along the pathway.

Be encouraged today…keep pressing toward your goals and do not give up. The payoff is coming…

Leaders are Winners – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

John Maxwell teaches that “Leadership is influence…nothing more, nothing less.” Influencing others to follow our example is a critical attribute to leadership and its positive effects. As a leader in my home, my workplace, my church, my business and my books that I write, I welcome and embrace my coveted role, in part, because I know that I am influencing others. This is accomplished through my mannerisms, character, what I say (words), what I do (actions),  and how I interact with others (behavior).

As you begin your day today, think about how you influence others. Your unique leadership style that is on display today will influence others for a lifetime.

Leadership at its Core – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

How do you know that you are actually ready and equipped to lead an organization, its people and/or the multiple initiatives that are required your undivided attention? Well, while there is no “1” answer for all, there are some basic principles and strategies that we need to maximize our success. They are:

Delegation – be comfortable when you assign work to others that they will perform

Attention-to-detail – pay close attention in the beginning, get good instructions and check in periodically

Trust – build a team around you that you can trust, short and long term

Appreciate – give applause regularly, publicly and privately, based upon the personality of your team. That may not say anything, but it is appreciated by them

Training – provide needed training on a recurring basis to keep skills sharp and crisp

Love – show unconditional love for all, both customers and staff. It goes a l-o-n-g way
