A New Business Venture – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Why would someone start a new business? For money…for prestige…for recognition…for visibility…because everyone else is doing it…boredom with the current job?? What would be your reasoning?

I believe it is an opportunity to solve a problem. I founded The Johnson Leadership Group to do just that!

Our country, nation and society is devoid of good leadership. Many baby boomers retired from the workforce, in droves, over the past three years, thus, leaving behind a current and next generation of workers without direction, mentors and coaches. They also do not have an example to follow.

The Johnson Leadership Group, established this year, will address the current needs by working with government, schools, corporations and churches. To this end, we will enter into formal contracts, offer timely speaking topics and expose this generation’s workers to appropriate training that will help them to navigate the challenges that they will face.

Our website is operational and our certifications will soon be completed.

I urge you, too, to identify the need and go for it! Your products or services are needed for the world to enjoy. Why not you?

Sharing – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

This week is quite remarkable:

  1. On April 30, I celebrated 6 months of post-retirement from the federal government after 34 years of total service. I sent out a social media post thanking everyone for their support and help over my productive career. I also celebrated with my youngest son, Cameron, on his transition into college full-time. The local school system has a very strong and supportive program(s) for autistic students to help him along,
  2. On May 1, we welcomed in a new month with gorgeous weather on the east coast of the USA and well as National Small Business Week. As you know, I am the proud founder and CEO of The Johnson Leadership Group, specializing in leadership development training, coaching and mentoring for the current and next generation of leaders,
  3. Today, May 2nd, my wife and I celebrate our spiritual birthday. 25 years ago, we prayed the prayer of Salvation and accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into our hearts,
  4. On May 3rd, I join the Governor of the great state of Maryland, and many other of my fellow residents, for the annual National Day of Prayer breakfast in Annapolis, followed by a book signing and discussion at His Way Christian Bookstore at 7:00pm in Glen Burnie, Maryland, and
  5. On May 4th, I  attend an all-day leadership training symposium with hundreds of thought-leaders and entrepreneurs as I seek ways to expand my network and increase clientele for my business.

I am sharing the good news with you to encourage you to continue to follow your DREAMS, GOALS and ASPIRATIONS. Never give up! Life is too short to stop. Keep pressing!!

Join me on this Thursday evening at 7PM. I look forward to seeing you!

How to Weather the Storm – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Life happens! At times, we are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Still, we can be in the right place at the right time.

Last week was particularly harsh for our friends on Capitol Hill and the 45th POTUS:

  • On Monday, the 45th POTUS’ personal attorney had his office raided by the feds,
  • On Tuesday, the CEO of Facebook testified before the US Senate as millions around the world watched a billionaire skillfully dodge most questions about privacy and data sharing,
  • On Wednesday, the 3rd most powerful congressman on Capitol Hill – Speaker of the House – announced his decision NOT to run for re-election,
  • On Thursday, contents from the former FBI Director’s new book was leaked and it included some unkind personal views of the 45th POTUS, and finally,
  • On Friday, the USE struck Syria with surface-to-air missile fire.

Wow!! How would you bounce back from this kind of week?!?!

I offer the following recommendations:

  1. Stay focused – on the task at hand.
  2. Avoid criticism – do not point fingers at others. When you point your finger at others, three are pointing back at you!
  3. Take personal responsibility – put on your big boy pants and accept what YOU did wrong. Take corrective measures.
  4. Do not look back – press forward with a new and changed attitude.
  5. Exhale – it’s time to reflect. Your introspection of the situation(s) can catapult you toward making needed internal changes.

Leadership at its Core – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

One of my favorite leadership quotes comes from my primary leadership mentor – John C. Maxwell. Maxwell teaches us that “Leadership is about influence…nothing more, nothing less.”

Influence is best achieved through relationships. When we take the time to develop and nurture them, we are allowed in for a conversation and open communication…then the relationship is formed cultivated.

Your influence is a direct feed into one’s life based upon your relationship with them. Invest in someone today!

RIP – Rev. Billy Graham – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Today, we celebrate and mourn the life of perhaps the world’s greatest leader and preacher – Reverend Billy Graham. A great man of God who traveled the world offering salvation to all who need it. His uncompromising ability to avail himself where needed is unprecedented indeed.

I love the man and his message. I studied his life for years, read his books, watched his videos and recordings and visited his birthplace near Charlotte, NC. His life speaks volumes to me each and everyday.

Rest in peace sir…you will be missed.

Change – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Would you agree that “change” is inevitable?? Me too.

Everything around us changes constantly – people, seasons, clothes, hair, stock market, habits etc.

Point is…we NEED to change and modify our behavior as well. It is what facilitates growth. If we choose NOT to change, life will pass us by.

Over time, we MUST adjust to the current times and trends to remain relevant. Then, we can be the catalyst to promote growth and change in others.

Expand Your Horizons – Wednesday Word of Wisdom

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

As you already know, I recently retired from the federal government after 34 years of total service. My primary field of expertise was acquisition and procurement. My career was marvelous as I was well supported by a large number of colleagues, professionals and bosses as I worked in numerous positions.

That said, I am now being tapped to share my expertise with others. Today, I get the opportunity to speak to a large group of senior level officials to give them insights into the federal acquisition process. I can remember back in 1990’s and 2000’s some of the many experiences that resonate as if they just happened on yesterday. In exchange for being available to share what I know. I will earn $1,000 for a 45-minute talk.

While I have transitioned into other areas of expertise in my life: Author, minister and pastor, leadership development, business owner, certified John Maxwell team coach and mentor, professional speaker – my core expertise lies in what I did for most of my professional life. Never let that go!!

So…expand your horizons, be marketable, trust your instincts and go for it! You’ll be glad you did.

Hope – Wednesday Word of Wisdom

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

You’ve heard the expression – “Keep HOPE alive!” Well…HOPE is a positive affirmation that gives us belief that something that we REALLY desire  (that has not yet come to pass) actually will (in due time). It gives us the faith to continue to march forward in order to accomplish our dream, goal and aspiration.

So…never give up on HOPE. It keeps us going and breathes a sign of relief into our overall planning, execution and ultimate achievement. This, in turn, gives us confidence when we face the next challenge (because we will).

HOPE – keep it alive!!

Excellence – Wednesday Word of Wisdom

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Excellence is defined as “the state of being excellent.” Thus, “excellent” means:

  • Superior
  • Very good of its kind
  • Eminently good.

We should therefore ALWAYS strive towards excellence with every opportunity that presents itself. We DO NOT get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression…so, deliver excellent content, have an excellent personality and represent ourselves in an excellent fashion at all times.

It’s that simple, excellence is the standard. Nothing more…nothing less.
