New Adventure – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

My recent travels to Kenya AFRICA was uplifting, inspiring, educational and awesome, to say the least.

As I led the USA at this year’s annual National Men’s Ministry Conference in Busia County, I was able to learn a new and different culture, expand my network globally, heighten my awareness of other’s concerns and bring hope/inspiration to a people that do have access to resources as we do in America. The newly appointed Presiding Bishop and I discussed many things and is looking to me to bring some needed leadership training to their nation. Of course, I said yes!

I always look forward to new adventures. My wife and I are planning now for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo Japan where we lead a group of 20 other couples for 2 weeks of fun, sporting events, exploring restaurants and touring the host city. What a way to add excitement to your life – new adventures. Try it…you’ll be glad that you did!

The Journey – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

The month of August 2018 has been especially rewarding and challenging at the same time. I traveled A LOT this month across 7 states in the USA, 2 continents (USA and Africa) and three nations while in Africa – by car and airplane. I probably clocked over 10,000 total miles easily.

However, when I look back, it was an end to a means. You see, I strive to form new relationships during this phase of my life, build my business, continue to work my ministry and learn & grow in the process. It was a delight travel to each destination – 102nd camp meeting of the National Association of the Church of God, Martha’s Vineyard, Kenya Africa and West Palm Beach, FL. I had an important role as a leader at each stop and people were counting on me to be present and attentive. I was…but I also endured lost luggage, missed flights, hours of driving along the highways (as a driver and a passenger), overnight stays in hotels (some good and some bad) and hot nights without a/c. The lesson here is attitude (how we handle such) vice what happens to us.

It’s not always about the journey that leads to the ultimate destination. I wouldn’t necessarily repeat my travels for this month, but I would indeed chart the course again. The new friendships from the experience are immeasurable.

Restore – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

There is a time to “restore” as we all take a needed break from our day to day hustle and bustle. That said, my family and I are enjoying are annual pilgrimage to Martha’s Vineyard for a needed time of rest and reflection. It’s been our way to reflect and relax prior to the end of summertime. This is our 20th year on the island. For the 1st time, our God grand daughter is traveling with us. She loves it…and so do we.

During this week, we see friends from near and far, talk some business as we plan for our Fall season transitions, but mostly enjoy the fair, great food, fellowship and companionship. For many of our friends, we refer to them as family. They are as close as “white on rice.”

I encourage us all to restore and reflect during this time of the year. It’s good for our spirit, soul and body. As I prepare for the multiple events that are forthcoming this Fall season, I study in the quiet and peaceful environment that Martha’s Vineyard affords.

Try it…you’ll like it.

New Beginnings – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

New beginnings can be, and should be, a confirmation of God’s constant move in our lives. That said, I have begun anew even after 34 years of total government service as a mid-level and senior-level leader in the federal government – October 1983 to October 2018!!

You see, for the past 2 years, I have maximized by new venture with The John Maxwell Team as a certified speaker, mentor, coach and trainer. It has been fruitful and mind blowing in terms of growth, development, continual learning and adding rich experience to my life.

In parallel, God has opened DOORS of opportunity that are ripe with excitement and limitless possibilities as I utilize the spiritual gifts that are within me for the benefit of others. At the end of this year, I end my current assignment as the Senior Pastor at my local church to launch a new vision that has been offered to me and my family. Further, a global expansion is on the horizon as I reach many more thousands and millions of people around the globe in the areas of Family, Ministry, Leadership, Coaching, Finance and Organizational Development. As 2018 ends and 2019 begins, I am super excited to see all before me as I engage and influence with a group of men and women around the world.

As you begin your new ventures in this great life, stay focused, keep learning, pray, understand your role(s), achieve, aspire for greatness and persevere – you’ll be glad that you did.

You can do it!!

Engage – Wednesday’s Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

This summer, as I stand up my new leadership development and coaching business, I am learning about the art of “engagement.” Engaging with people of like interests has been quite rewarding and educational for me.

Through engagement, I have earned new contracts for my business…just being proactive in my approach. I have met so many decision makers in their government agencies, corporations and churches, where I perform my training. The best is yet to come as I attend summer conferences and conventions that are hosted by major organizations in our communities – Black Enterprise, US Black Chambers, Inc., and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, not to mention great speaking engagements coming up this fall with youth services and medical organizations.

This is NOT about me…but about YOU. Please engage with your constituents and colleagues in your network. Be relentless in your approach, yet professional, tactful and assertive (not aggressive). You’ll be glad that you did!

Birthday Reflections – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

On Sunday & Monday of this week, I celebrated my 58th birthday.

First, at church on Sunday with a ton of family, friends and members where I preached from the topic: “A Friend Indeed.” This simple, yet profound sermon reminded us all about the value and merits of friendship. Jesus is our friend and advocate! I saw friends from my high school as well as my freshman year in college and everyone else in between. What a joy. Afterwards, we had dinner with my immediate family, my dad and brother and good friend Thom, from high school.

On Monday, the 16th, my actual date of birth in 1960, I spent time meeting at a government agency to discuss my business mission and vision with a great team of professionals, then spent time with my middle son, Chris, in DC at the 2018 MLB All-Star Game festivities at the Washington Convention Center. What a joy to see the Hall of Fame mementos and having a greater appreciation for the players back in the 1800’s and early 1900’s. I took a photo next to the World Series trophy, made new each year by Tiffany’s and valued at close to $1M, and being in the company of thousands of fans throughout my day. Later that evening, I had dinner again with my immediate family.

Birthday’s are to be cherished with loved one’s. It was a great day…I look forward to so many more! Dream big…
