The Joys of Coaching

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

This is International Coaching Week across the globe. Coaches help people to achieve their goals through strategic questions that brings out the potential that already resides within.

Unbeknownst to many of us, our goals, aspirations and dreams are achievable but we often need someone in our lives to help “push” us toward greatness. That is the role of a coach. I am delighted to serve in this capacity as a certified coach through The Johns Maxwell Team! It’s a joy to assist others during this journey.

You see, a coach will help you to:

a. See a problem through a different lens

b. Answer open ended questions to the extent that you will see that the answer already lies within you

c. Identify and address tough situations with tactfulness and grace.

As you consider a coach, how can I assist?

Results-Oriented!

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Is your outcome consistent with your goals!

As we deposit our expertise and experience into the lives of others, the return is often a reflection of how well we execute with our assistance, help and guidance. As leaders, let’s focus our efforts solely on ensuring that the next generation benefits from our individual and collective wisdom. In doing so, it makes this world a much better place!

Try this formula as you develop your GOAL(S):

G – Give of yourself

O – Obtain the training needed then train others toward excellence

A – Attitude should be reflective of our intentions

L – Love others as we love ourselves.

Lead by Example!

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Maxwell’s quote is self-explanatory but is it achievable. I say “yes.” Yes because it is in the “doing” that we realize that we can accomplish more than we ever imagined. Following 34 total years of service as a mid-level and senior-level government employee, combined with 20 years of ministry experience in positions of increasing responsibility in the USA and abroad, I can attest that leadership begins with the “doing.”

In post-retirement, as I pour into the lives of the next generation of leaders, I share plenty of personal stories to encourage others to “do” what they want to accomplish in this great life. When they “do,” miraculous things happen and that brings boldness to stat working toward the next goal, dream and/or aspiration. Saying “yes” is what propels us closer and closer to realizing our potential.

So…leadership begins with doing what your heart is leading you to do. Thus, you become the example that others look to in all areas of your life. Start today!!

Lent – a season of preparation

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Today, we enter a 40-day period of restoration, consecration, focus, prayer and concentration on what’s most important in our blessed lives – faith and God. We look forward to Easter (Resurrection) Sunday – when Jesus arose to give us power to live a life filled with love, care for others and optimism in all situations.

You see, we must be mindful to always acknowledge where our health, business success and open door opportunities come from – God almighty!

As we continue among our paths in 2019, please prioritize the presence of God in our lives and THANK HIM for health, prosperity and success. I do….and have no regrets.

Celebration of Life!

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Episcopal Pastor and Mrs. John Cheery

At the age of 79, my most influential pastor, John A. Cherry, passed during a routine medical procedure, this month. On yesterday, I joined together with thousands in Suitland, Maryland to attend his funeral. What a joy!

You see, Pastor Cherry was the absolutely best pastor for me during the 1990’s and early 2000’s. His style of teaching God’s Word was very clear, concise, crisp, simple, understandable and easy to digest. He complemented his teaching through his Godly lifestyle. I grew tremendously as a man, husband, father, leader in the workplace at the mid-level and senior-level, leader in the church, including Senior Pastor, an author and a neighbor. I am truly grateful.

I celebrate the life of this man and the church that was built in 1981 with 24 members until 2006 (25 years later) to over 24,000 members. I was member #8313 after joining the church on May 2, 1993.

In many ways, my life mirrors his – thank you Pastor Cherry. I celebrate you!

Walk by Faith – Not by Sight!

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Client list continues to grow & expand

Post-retirement is a wonderful time to cherish life’s accomplishments and to begin a phase of sole focus on helping others achieve their dreams. That’s where I am.

You see, I have discovered that our fulfillment in life is a direct link to how much we purposely help and assist others. That’s why I spend my days coaching, mentoring and training others. I can deposit into them what I did right and what I did wrong. It’s my sweet spot.

My pulpit reflects the work that I do in my business and ministry in the USA and abroad. In just one year (February 1, 2018 to February 1, 2019), many doors have been opened for me to utilize my God-given gifts – teaching, administration and leadership – to help churches, corporations, federal government agencies and non-profits, and their front-line, mid-level and senior-level workforce.

I would encourage you keep pressing forward and do not focus on what you “see,” but instead live out your dreams and aspirations that will, in turn, open doors beyond your ability to open for yourself. It’s about others, not ourselves.

Random Acts of Kindness Week

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality

Governor Larry Hogan
Lt Governor Boyd Rutherford

As the new year continues to unfold, our distinguished Governor of the great state of Maryland signed a new Executive order to increase the term limits for his Commission on Suicide Prevention. He recognizes that continuity is needed to effect meaningful change for both victims and perpetrators of this increasingly devastating disease – taking out one’s frustration(s) by ending their life.

I am delighted to appointed to serve on this important Commission – for 4 years. I intend to initiate acts of kindness to demonstrate that God loves everyone and wants the best for everyone regardless of how one may feel about themselves.

As we reflect upon this week, please be kind to one another. You don’t know who really needs it!!
