Remain Vigilant – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

Vigilance is synonymous with “watchful.” It is a word that describes one’s creative juices with regard to alertly watching something, or someone, especially to avoid danger.

We presently live in troubling times and I am concerned about the state of our overall well-being. Maintaining balance – mind, body and spirit – is a goal that I have established for myself this entire summer. While extremely busy with speaking engagements, leading my local church, meeting with government agencies to present leadership training, writing a book proposal per the request of a major literary agency, I still find time to observe my surroundings and get adequate rest.

As I relax, restore and renew this week from Martha’s Vineyard, my final vacation away from the noise of the world, I am reminded to stay vigilant in my personal resolve to maintain a balance in my life. [Last year at this time, I was enjoying the 2016 Summer Olympic Games from the beaches of Rio do Janerio BRAZIL. Thus, I get away to watch the world around me through the daily news and daily conversations with family & friends. I encourage you to do the same. It is indeed refreshing to enjoy quiet time with peaceful bliss that follows. Try it…it’s good for your soul.

Keep the Faith – Wednesday Word

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

The 34th annual Greater Philadelphia Christian Writer’s Conference has concluded and officially ended on July 29, 2017. In its current format – it is over…done…finished. However, it is just the beginning for a new chapter in the life of this author and writer.

You see, during the conference, I was approached by a major publisher and encouraged to submit a book proposal. At one point, the associate editor told me not to bother…”we want to sign you now.” In later discussions though, I was told to go ahead a prepare/submit the proposal. My target date is August 31st for a 5-book, multi-year publishing contract.

I share with you because I want you to keep the faith! Stay true to your dreams, goals and aspirations. With patience, they will come true. Keep working, keep striving and keep pushing…the light is shining on the other side of that tunnel (even if you can’t see it).

Wednesday Word – Authenticity

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Authors , Books , Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Interview , John Maxwell , Leadership , Podcasts , Religion , Spirituality , Uncategorized

To be authentic is comparable to honesty, transparency, trustworthiness and without pretense. Today, we live in a society that desperately needs you to be truthful at all costs. Even Jesus teaches that “the truth shall make you free.” Freedom and liberation open us up to an honest discussion and dialogue on the value of authenticity. Today is a great day to begin this conversation within your circle of friends and sphere of influence. Will you begin today? – so many need to have to discussion, but if you start it.

[Weekly Devotional] Why Praise and Give Thanks

By Kevin Wayne Johnson | Christian Living , Christianity , Devotions , Religion , Spirituality

“It is good to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High; To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.” – Psalm 92:1-2 (KJV)

“O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth forever.” –  Psalm 107:1 (KJV)thanks

God does, and will, hold us all accountable based upon our level of commitment. Our commitment, simply put, is a promise to be loyal to someone or something.

Why does God demand our commitment to Him?

In part 1, we learned that one way to demonstrate our commitment to God is through our prayer life. We should pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) with a rejoicing spirit of thanksgiving. Prayers of praise, intercession and thanksgiving are 3 types of prayers that show our commitment to God’s command:

  1. Praise – a demonstration of our reliance upon God in all circumstances.
  2. Intercession – a demonstration of concern for others.
  3. Thanksgiving – a demonstration of thanks and contentment in our current state.

For part 2 – another way to demonstrate our commitment to God is to obtain wisdom. In Proverbs 1:1-8, we learn all about the purpose of this precious Book which are to (1) To impart moral discernment and discretion (verses 3-5), and

(2) To develop mental clarity and perception (verses 2 and 6). No skill is perfected without discipline (commitment) and when a person has skill, he/she has freedom to create something beautiful.

Further, the benefits of wisdom are revealed in chapter 3, verses 1-8…”lean not unto your own understanding, but acknowledge Him in ALL of your ways and He shall direct your paths.”

Prayer: Dear God, I commit to You and only You in my daily life. Teach me the way so that I my accountability toward You be manifest for all to see. Amen.
